I've always preferred playing my own game rather than relying on overpowered (OP) meta tactics. However, this year, it seems almost impossible to secure wins without conforming to these strategies, as the majority of opponents employ them.

After failing to qualify for Weekend League last week – a first in my gaming history – I reluctantly experimented with meta tactics during the week in Rivals. Surprisingly, they just don't seem to work well for me.

When I make runs down the wing, I often find myself without a player to pass to for a cut-back, despite having four attackers on the field. Even my 99 pace defenders struggle to keep up with attackers boasting 80 pace and the ball at their feet.

The only somewhat effective OP playstyle for me is finesse shot+, but even with anticipate+, my defending skills are lacking. The trait activates, but my defenders struggle to gain possession, resulting in the ball bouncing back to the opponent.

In a recent match, I went 2-0 up only to lose 2-6 because my opponent continuously exploited the wing and executed six cut-backs. Despite anticipating the opponent's moves, I find myself helpless in preventing them.

My defense resembles Swiss cheese – full of holes and disorganized – while my opponents' defense feels impenetrable. It's perplexing, especially since I've consistently performed in the Elite division for the past three FIFAs. Yet, this year, I'm stuck in Division 6.

This FIFA installment has left me feeling less in control of my team than ever before. Just when I think I've grasped the game's nuances, an eight-match losing streak serves as a harsh reminder that I'm struggling to find my footing.

Maybe I haven't grasped the true skill of FC 24 yet?
